I was shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Delfiner.
He was a  very caring doctor and an astute diagnostician. I have only been a patient of his for the last 8 years, but I was always so impressed with his knowledge and skill. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family.

I have been Dr. Joel Delfiner's patient for about 20 years. He was a thorough and compassionate physician who, surprisingly, had a wonderful sense of humor. Besides health talk, we had many good laughs and conversations. He will be missed and difficult to replace.  My deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.

I was Dr. Delfiner’s patient for 10-15 years and remembering his knowledge, care, kindness and sense of humor will stay with me forever.  We had so many interesting conversations over all these years and I will always value his advice and appreciate his care.  May his memory be a blessing.

Although I was his patient for the past year only, I came to appreciate  him as a superb and perceptive physician. He was patient and kind and gave freely of his time to listen, explain and clarify.  I’ll miss his willingness to share his expertise as well as his dry sense of humor.

Dr. Delfiner was my teacher and mentor. We his students grieve immensely. He taught us so much.

During my residency at Mount Sinai West, I had the privilege of spending many hours with Dr. Delfiner, discussing everything from Neurology to politics, and hearing updates on his children’s successful careers. Despite always carrying a mug labeled “Grumpy,” he was anything but that. Dr. Delfiner was an inspiration to me, shaping my journey as a new neurologist. I will always cherish the fond memories of our conversations.

One of my favorite memories with Dr. Delfiner was when a few fellow residents and I decided to tackle the towering stacks of neurology journals that had accumulated on his desk—so many that the wood had begun to cave in. We spent the day sorting through the old journals, creating space to organize his family photos. When he walked in and saw what we had done, he was overjoyed, jokingly declaring us his “newly adopted children.”

I am deeply saddened that we didn’t have more time together for him to share his wisdom and kindness. His impact on my life and career is something I will always hold dear.
