John J. Sibley

Peasleeville – John "Justin" Sibley, the beloved son of John and Gysbertha Sibley of Peasleeville, NY, passed away at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, December 18, 2015, following a 12 year battle with multiple cancers.

Justin was born in Plattsburgh, February 13, 1987. He attended St. John's and Seton Catholic High School. As a high school senior he was diagnosed with B Cell Lymphoma which was cured by an allogenic bone marrow transplant at MSKCC.

Upon graduation he attended St. Lawrence University and later transferred to Plattsburgh State where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a baccalaureate degree in Biology. He then worked at MSKCC as a patient transporter to acquire the necessary clinical hours for enrollment in Clarkson University's Physicians' Assistant program in 2012. During that program he did 2 surgical rotations at MSKCC where he worked with the DaVinci surgical robotics system and the ENT team. In 2014, Justin graduated from the PA program and passed his boards. It was thanks to his PA training that he was able to self-diagnose two of his cancers. In the last year of his life he worked to assist others afflicted with angiosarcoma and Li Fraumeni syndrome.

Justin was an avid fisherman, computer gamer and amateur musician. In addition to his interest in medicine, he was also a lifelong science fiction and World War II buff.

Left to cherish his memories include his parents; his loving grandmother, Bernice Sibley; and his girlfriend, Teresa Verda Smith.

He was predeceased by his grandfather, John F. Sibley, September 3, 1998.

Relatives and friends may call Saturday, January 2, 2015 from 3 to 5 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A celebration of his life will begin at 5 PM in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel, with an opportunity for family and friends to share memories. This will be immediately followed by a gathering at Livingoods Restaurant in Peru.
