Joe was a devoted husband, dedicated father and loving grandpa. He approached life from a creative and thoughtful perspective, always treating others with kindness, generosity and grace. Joe and his wife Simone were married 37 years (together for 41), the second marriage for both.
Joe and Simone enjoyed many adventures together that included raising Rick (stepson) and Paulette (stepdaughter), the management of a successful real estate practice (Simone Song Properties) and many fun-filled excursions to places they loved (Aruba, Atlantic City, Nashville, Las Vegas, the Caribbean, Europe and more).
Before becoming a small business owner, Joe served as a New York City police officer and NY state trooper. He also worked for Volkswagen as a salesman and as state trooper in Key West.
Joe’s creative spirit led him to many artistic pursuits - photography, song and screen writing - as well as learning to play guitar. His love for music is illustrated by his enormous record collection and enjoyment of all things Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen.
Born on October 12, 1945, in Queens, New York, Joe was the middle child born to Cotello and Helen Montagna, the parents of Merrily, Joe and Frank of Richmond Hill, NY. Joe attended Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens and St. John’s University. He and Simone lived on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Joe is survived by Simone, Rick (Whitnee), Paulette, his four granddaughters Sabrina, Madeline, Claudia and Dylan - and many other family members and friends.
