Joseph Martin Tate, 72, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020. Born in New York City, Joseph was the son of the late Robert and Rita Tate. He was preceded in death by his wife of 18 years, Diane V. Karlan Tate. Joseph is survived by his three daughters, Kiernan LaGuardia (husband Marc LaGuardia), Kelly Tate and Courtney Tate and the mother of his children, Margaret Tate. Joseph also leaves behind his three sisters, Maureen Perez (husband Michael Perez), Rita Gargano (husband Alphonse Gargano), Kathleen Tate- Padian, Beth Padian, a number of nieces and nephews and two grandchildren, Mairead and Nolan LaGuardia.
Joseph Tate worked for the New York State Unified Court System as a court officer in the Bronx for 30 years, until his retirement in 2010. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Good Conduct Medal.
Joseph will best be remembered for his sense of humor and love of music, both of which allowed him to acquire a plethora of diverse and special friends.
Wake services will be held at Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home located at 1076 Madison Avenue, New York, NY on Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM. There will be a religious ceremony in the Chapel at Frank E. Campbell on Friday, February 21st at 11 AM, followed by the burial at Beth Moses Cemetery, 1500 Wellwood Ave, West Babylon, NY 11704.
In lieu of flowers, Joseph’s family asks that you donate to Calvary Hospital whose staff went above and beyond to care for Joseph during his last months. His family will forever be grateful to them.
