Josephine (Joan) DeSimone died September 5, 2023, on what was her 85th birthday. She died from complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease.
Born in Manhattan as the fourth daughter to Esther and Edward McConville, Joan moved to West Islip, Long Island, where she raised her five children, with her former husband (now deceased) Vincent J. DeSimone.
She embraced her life in suburbia as an active member of her parish, St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Babylon, the Long Island Yacht Club and many volunteer organizations. She was grateful for her life and delighted in the lives of her children and grandchildren.
She was generous in spirit and treasure, game for anything and quick to laugh, making her a trusted friend to all who were lucky enough to know her.
As an empty nester, Joan returned to her beloved Manhattan where she resided in the Beekman Place neighborhood. Despite her illness, Joan kept her sense of humor and deep love of family.
She is mourned today by her children; Claudia Lucey, Lisa Haywood (Robert), Stephen DeSimone (Katherine), Edward DeSimone, and Chris DeSimone (Elizabeth). She is further survived by her beloved grandchildren, Nina Lucey, Matt Lucey, Harry Haywood, Stephen DeSimone Jr. Jack Haywood, Hope Haywood, James Lucey, Thomas DeSimone, Julianna DeSimone, Christian DeSimone, Joy Lucey, Katie DeSimone, Mia DeSimone, Vincent DeSimone and Veronica DeSimone.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
