
Joyce was born in Greenwood, Mississippi and grew up in Rosedale, Mississippi. She graduated from Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Following college, Joyce moved to Boston and then to New York. In New York she met and married Richard H. Kuh in 1966,. They remained married until his death in 2011.
Joyce was a journalist and editor for various magazines until 1989, when she became director of development at Grace Church School in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, a post she held until her retirement in 2020. With her help, Grace Church School grew its endowment of less than $1 million to more than $40 million. She also was instrumental in helping Grace Church School achieve independence from Grace Church, to its building and opening the Grace Church School High School Division, and a new gymnasium at its main building on Fourth Avenue.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory be made to the Endowment for Financial Aid at Grace Church School.
Joyce is survived by her son, Michael J. Kuh and her daughter, Jody Kuh, daughter-in-law, Katrina Fischer Kuh, son-in-law, Andrew Anderson, as well as by her sister, Nan Borod, and grandchildren, Theodore Paul Kuh and Hannah Elizabeth Kuh, children of Michael and Katrina.
