Julia was one of the first persons I met when I arrived as assistant to Monseigneur Connaughton. She looked me over, up and down a few times, and asked: "What kind of a name is 'Murr'?" "Bavarian," I answered. She didn't say a single word but nodded approvingly, and I knew I had passed my first inspection. 
We became friends over the years. I came to admire her determination and her zeal in promoting the things she believed in. Among those things was the German Mass at our beloved Saint Joseph's Parish, Yorkville. We became good friends.

My Dad, Rudy Reinhold, and The Winter family were good friends.  I remember visiting Julia, her father, Bill (I always called him Mr. Winter) and her mother in their Manhattan apartment when I was about 5/7 years old.  When I was in my 20’s- 30’s Julia and I would have lively discussions on what is wrong with the world and how to fix it.  It was great fun.  She was a lady far ahead of her time. 

Julia was a longtime supporter of St. Francis Mission on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota.  We were sorry to learn today of her passing.  She and her family will be in our prayers.   Fr. James Kubicki, SJ

The memorial and Obit of Julia is right on. She was one determined lady in getting German culture into Kolping and having Masses said in German at St. Joseph. When I became a Kolping member, thirty years ago, I liked her very much. Unfortunately living in Westchester, working full time and raising a family it was hard going to Mass at St. Joe's. She was very knowledgable as she told me to get Baldrian tea for my Mom. I saw her again at KOH and she brought along a priest Fr. Thekea( not sure of spelling).
She will get a good spot in Heaven..often thought of her.

Julia Winters had an indomitable spirit which she used to champion many causes.  
I will remember her for hosting the Coffee Hour after the German Mass at St. Joseph's of Yorkville, as well as her many years membership in the Catholic Kolping Society. 
May she rest in peace.
