She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed.
Lenore was born on March 25, 1937, in Bronx, NY, daughter to Murray and Dorothy Blitz and younger sister to brother Marvin Blitz. She later moved to Mount Vernon and then White Plains, NY where she raised a family of three children, Jill, Douglas, and Jonathan. She then moved to New York City, where she lived with her late husband Maximilian Lerner for over 37 years.
Lenore was a dedicated teacher for over 40 years, starting her career in the New York City public school system and then moving to Westchester Community College in Purchase, NY, where she taught English and served as the department chair. She was also incredibly creative, and had a passion for painting, gardening, and jewelry making. However, her creative passions were secondary to her dedication to her family. She was a gracious and gifted host to many holidays and family gatherings, and reveled in being surrounded by children, grandchildren and extended family.
Lenore was a kind and generous soul, always putting others’ needs before her own. Her love and compassion extended to all those who knew her, and she will be remembered for her infectious smile and warm personality. She is survived by her brother Marvin (Nancy) Blitz, children, Jill (Kerry) Beraud, Douglas (Susan) Kaufman, Jon Kaufman (Jenny Gribbin), David (Laurie) Lerner, Shereen Lerner (Robert Miller), and Thomas Lerner (Kirsten Erickson). She was the proud and devoted grandmother to 11 grandchildren – Matthew, Talia, Nicole, Michelle, Allyssa (Connor), Ben, Steve, Katie (Luke), Noah, Lucas (Nicole), and Willa; and the great-grandmother to Maxwell and Miriam.
A funeral service for Lenore will be held Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Temple Shaaray Tefila, 250 E. 79 St., New York, NY 10075.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the UJA in memory of Lenore Lerner.
