Luz Maria Echevarria

Luz Maria Echevarria "Lucy" passed away on a chilly morning of December 21, 2012 at CMC Main in Charlotte, North Carolina. The family is planning a Catholic mass and burial in New York City. Lucy was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico on July 13, 1932 to her deceased parents, Ramon Figueroa and Zenaida Santiago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fidel Echevarria, the love of her life, in 1982. Lucy arrived in New York City at the tender age of 16 to join her mother and brothers and follow the American dream of many immigrants. She worked as a hat maker but mostly as a Sales and Orders Administrator with an optics supply company from which she retired in 1994. She is survived by her daughterjEvelyn of Charlotte, NC, her son Fidel and wife Nancy of Chicago,Il and her son Richard and wife Elsie of Matawan, NJ; grandchildren, Everett, Jessica, Annie, Matthew, Jason and Jocelyn. The family is eternally grateful for the care and love given to Lucy by so many people but special thanks go to Celeste, her "buddy" and home attendent, Bridgette, her thoughtful nurse, and Drs. Tait, Menscer and Meyers for their professional assistance. Lucy was the matriarch of the family and was much loved and respected by her children and grandchildren. Everyone will miss her incredible cooking, easy going manner and sage wisdom. She was a true lady and a person of deep faith.
