Lynn Hyland Bobby

September 1, 1947November 21, 2021

Lynn Hyland Bobby of New York, NY, was a loving wife, daughter, sister and friend who passed away on November 21, 2021, age 74, after a long illness in the care of her loving family. Until her death she handled it all with grace, dignity, and strength comforted and guided by her unwavering faith.

She leaves her beloved husband Stephen Bobby to whom she was married for 43 years. Lynn was predeceased by her parents Ruth and John Hyland of Haworth, NJ. She is survived by her husband Steve, siblings Leslie Bennett (and Garth) of Wayland, MA; John (and Cindy) of River Edge, NJ; Owen (and Climeen) of Highland Lakes, NJ; Laura Hoit of Sandyston, NJ. Lynn was also an integral part of Steve’s family and his siblings (Barbara Stiles of Manhattan; John of Rockaway; and Kenneth of Woodside) will also miss her. She was the cherished aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Lynn grew up in Haworth, NJ and was a student at Northern Valley Regional High School before graduating from Regis College (’69) in Weston, MA with a degree in Education. After graduation she blended her ambition to see the world with an intrepid spirit and backpacked in Europe on her own for an entire summer. She moved to Manhattan and soon met Steve, who was born and bred in Yorkville. Lynn joined him there and became a New Yorker. She availed herself of many cultural activities but had a particular attraction to the Philharmonic at Lincoln Center where she had seasonal subscriptions for many years.

She loved to travel and it was never very long between her European jaunts. Perhaps her most meaningful trip was her last. Lynn made a pilgrimage to Lourdes at a time when the spiritual solace was very sustaining.

Lynn was employed for 42 years in New York by Pillsbury, Winthrop, Shaw, and Putnam LLP. She worked in Trusts and Estates as a paralegal and in her last years as a Trustee. Although she ostensibly retired seven years ago, she continued to work until close to her death. She was widely known and admired in the firm and by her clients.

A viewing will be held at the Walter B Cooke Funeral Home, 352 East 87 St. on Friday, November 26 from 9:00 to 10:30 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 230 East 90 11:00 a.m. The interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ. In lieu of flowers a contribution to the charity of your choice, in Lynn's name would be greatly appreciated.

To my Aunt Lynn,

Your fight was like no other, your strength was above anything I have ever witnessed. Each and every day you woke up with your faith in God and your will to live, you my lady were amazing! I’ll forever cherish our long chats aka our therapy sessions, you helping me plan my week and most of all the “xoxo & love you’s” from you. Do not worry, as promised, Kara and I will take care of Uncle Steve. We shall teach him the MacBook, and show him how to use the printer, Hulu & Netflix. Xoxo & love you!
