Maeve was born in West Harrison, NY on August 2, 1944, to John and Eleanor Cooney. She graduated from White Plains High School in 1962, attended SUNY Cortland, and graduated magna cum laude from Columbia University with a Masters degree in Art History.
Maeve was the owner of Samson Fine Arts and a member of the NY Children’s Aid Society.
She loved art, especially pre-Columbian and Ancient, and travelled the world with her beloved husband of 51 years, Andrew Gyenes, exploring different cultures.
She also loved fashion and was always the most elegantly dressed woman in the room.
Maeve was pre-deceased by her beloved son Samuel P. Gyenes (1971-1987), her parents, and her elder sister Elana Harmon, of Boca Raton Florida.
She leaves behind her husband Andy, her brother John Cooney (Judith Schaedel), her sister Laureen Grossman (Seth Grossman), her brother-in-law Christopher Harmon, as well as many nieces and grand-nieces, nephews and grand-nephews who adored her, her wit and her style.
Her generosity, vitality and loving nature were especially endearing to her family and her many friends.
