“Auntie”
Passed away on January 1, 2022, in New York City.
Ms. Yon was born in New York on March 15, 1928. A lifelong resident of the city, she attended high school in Manhattan and Mount St. Vincent College in Riverdale, NY, graduating with a degree in Physics and Spanish. She subsequently worked in the corporate world as an executive administrator, retiring from Dun and Bradstreet in 1993.
Margherita was the daughter of S. Constantino Yon, musician and composer, and Kathryn Kohler. She was notably the niece of Pietro Yon, world-renowned organist, and composer of the well-known Christmas song “Gesu Bambino.” She is survived by six nephews and nieces, thirteen grand-nephews and nieces, as well as extended family members throughout the United States and Italy.
Auntie was known for her kind and generous heart, her gracious acceptance of every person she met, and her strong Catholic faith. Her star shone brightly during her long lifetime and now illuminates the hearts of her family and all who knew or chanced to encounter her. Settimo Vittone, Italy, where she sought solace nearly every summer of her life, will be her final resting place.
