She was the beloved mother of Elias and Elly Pateras and was predeceased by her loving husband Nicolas Pateras.
Maria was born in Piraeus, Greece and immigrated to the United States at the age of five. She assimilated quickly and loved her adopted country, but always retained a deep connection to her native Greece. An avid reader, Maria was a student of history and could speak knowledgeably about numerous historical, as well as current events. Maria was devoted to her parents, Avgerinos and Koula Mavrophilippas, tirelessly caring for them in their later years, and was equally dedicated to her husband and children throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations in her memory to the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 319 East 74th Street, NY, NY 10021, or St. Michael’s Home, 3 Lehman Terrace, Yonkers, NY 10705.
