Marie Claire Montanari, 72, died at her home in New York on June 23, 2015 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Ms. Montanari was born in Paris and came to New York in 1968 to work as an interpreter at the United Nations. She began studying photography seriously in 1973, taking workshops with Harold Feinstein, George Tice and Phillip Halsman. She then became a student and friend of Lisette Model, who followed her work for many years. As a fine art photographer, she specialized in nudes and landscapes – both urban and rural. Her work has been widely exhibited in the United States and France, and is part of the permanent collection of the Bibliotheque Nationale de France in Paris. She is survived by her husband John Ziegler.
