
On Saturday, November 21, 2020, Marilyn Ruth McGaughey O’Malley, beloved wife, loving sister, and beloved aunt, passed away at the age of 91 at Mount Sinai St Luke’s in New York City, New York. Marilyn was born in Canton, Ohio to Warren McGaughey and Dora Shearer McGaughey, where she grew up with her brothers Richard and Don, and sister Arlene, who predecease her, and her sister, Betty, who survives her.
After graduating high school in 1947, she auditioned for the prestigious Julliard School in New York City, New York. She was accepted and graduated in 1950 with a degree in Performing Arts.
On December 5th, 1964, Marilyn McGaughey married Coleman O’Malley, who also predeceases her. A loving couple, they enjoyed camping, boating, music, the ocean, and most of all, their extended families.
Marilyn is also survived by her many McGaughey and O’Malley nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren.
Her career as a concert violinist, began when she was a child and includes performing as a high school student in the Canton Symphony. As a professional, she performed with the Kansas City Symphony, and the New York Symphony. She was also part of a String Trio that performed at the White House.
In the late 1950s Marilyn took her career in a different direction when she went to work for Columbia University. When she retired in 1991, she was Associate Director for Administrative Support Services in the Office of University Development and Alumni Relations.
