I had the pleasure and the honor to work with Dr. Seigel at Good Shepherd Services for four decades.  His insight, integrity and leadership provided all of us who  knew him with a rare opportunity to learn and grow professionally.  He had an extraordinary ability to  remain optimistic  in the face of difficulties and to bring good humor  to the most  onerous tasks.  His intelligent optimism  not only  inspired the staff, but most meaningfully never failed to help our residents see a way through  their pain.  Hundreds of those children have grown to be strong and hopeful adults thanks to his presence in their lives.  His was truly a life lived well. With love and respect,   Rachel deAragon 


I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Siegel at St. Helena’s and 17th St. He always insisted I call him Mort, but I had so much respect for him I could never call him anything but Dr. Siegel.  He taught me so much. He was a brilliant psychiatrist- unparalleled. I often think and utilize things he taught me in my practice today.  Clinically, I don’t think I’ve ever come across someone so brilliant in all my years in practice. He was kind, genuine and a mensch.  There are so many people he has helped, both directly and indirectly.  May his memory be a blessing. 

I came to Sister's of the Good Shepherd in 1978 abuse and broken I was only 12 years old. Dr Seigel and a other members of the tight knit Shepherd Services saved my life! One of the therapies that really worked for me, was the group therapy Dr. Seigel led

My deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Seigel from myself and the entire Good Shepherd Community that he worked with for over 40 years.  He was an amazing team member and friend to so many staff and was a compassionate psychiatrist to so many young people over those many years.  We received word of his passing on Friday and so many tributes have been shared of his kindness, sense of humor and his wisdom.  He has been missed since leaving Good Shepherd and knowing he has passed on leaves another sense of loss to us but the happy memories come back too.
  Again we send our love and prayers to the entire family and our gratitude for all Dr. Seigel gave over the years, we were the fortunate ones who got to work with him.  May his memory be a blessing.  

I worked with Mort at Good Shepherd Services and have many fond and loving memories of him…my fondest was the morning he took some of the staff members from then Project Outreach fishing at the crack of dawn from Sheepshead Bay.  

I was hopelessly seasick.  And our clinical director, Janet did not help my misery by sitting next to me doing her double cross stick diagram less Time cross word puzzle on graph paper.  

I recovered…actually caught if I recall correctly, a tuna.  Had a wonderful day and just so many other fond remembrances of Mort.  His memory is truly, a blessing.  Thank you Mort!!
