Myron Aaron Libien died on June 19, 2022 at the age of eighty-seven at Hackensack Meridian Pascack Valley Medical Center, from complications of Lewy body disease. He was known as Mike or M.A. Libien because, in his words, the comedian Jerry Lewis ruined the name Myron forever. Mike was born in August 1934 in Manhattan to Jesse and Bertha Libien, of blessed memory. Although his birth certificate says he was born on August 6, his mother insisted his birthday was actually August 7—and so his birthday was always celebrated on August 7, usually with a backyard barbecue. Mike was a proud graduate of the Bronx High School of Science and the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania. After his college graduation, he worked in Detroit for Ford Motor Company and American Motors, then served in the army in Okinawa. After returning from the army, he received his MBA from Michigan State University. Mike moved back to NYC and met and married his beautiful wife, Lois, in 1966. Mike and Lois raised their children, Jenny and Matthew, first in Manhattan and then in Glen Rock, New Jersey. Mike spent most of his career as a certified public accountant with his own firm. He was a board member for the National Conference of CPA Practitioners and served as president of the New Jersey chapter. He published articles in various accounting journals, including the CPA journal and the CPA Practitioner. He was recognized as an expert in domestic and international sales operations and worked with companies including Camerican International, a company that globally sources canned and frozen foods, and Sylvan Ginsbury, an electronics distribution company. He was dedicated to his clients, many of whom became lifelong friends. An Eagle Scout, Mike considered scouting an important part of his life and served as a Scoutmaster for many years. Boy Scouts introduced him to the great outdoors and he loved birdwatching (marveling about seeing a bald eagle in his own backyard), camping, hiking, and visiting national and provincial parks. He loved swimming, both in the pool at the Y and in the ocean. He was a third-generation member and the treasurer of the Actors’ Temple and took great joy in its revitalization. Mike is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Lois; his children and their spouses, Jenny Libien and Richard Goodwin and Matthew and Evy Libien; and his grandchildren, Ethan, Nate, Jack, Jason, and Molly. He is also survived by his sister and her husband, Esther and Harold Steinholz, and their children and grandchildren.
