Olga Arroyo

The beloved wife of Hector (Pupo) Arroyo who predeceased her on December 23, 2012, she was the daughter of Alejandra and Emeterio Asencio who moved to Manhattan’s neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen after raising nine children in Puerto Rico.

Olga is survived by siblings: Pichi (Pablo), Angel (Monserrate), Sifredo (Yolanda) and Lucila (predeceased by Benito). She was predeceased by siblings: Jesus, Nin, Milagros, and Nilda (Junior).

Olga was the proud mother of her beloved daughter Evelyn, who was her sun, her moon, and her stars.

Olga is survived by her nieces/nephews: Madelyn, Nelsie (George), Angel (Darlene), Carlos (Arcela), Roxanne (predeceased by Sammy), Freddie, Irving (Raquel), Jeanette, Denise, Alex, Eric, Michelle (Shirley), Jennifer (Tim), and Janice. She is also survived by grandnieces/nephews: Christina, Alexandra Krista, Paul, Matthew, Nikki, Joseph, Julio, Kahlia, Giancarlos, Alejandro, Niko, Antoinette, Kayla, Ainhoa, Johanna, Antonio, Irving Jr., Nisa, Naomi (predeceased), Elijah, Sebastian, Siara, Jeremiah, Ava, Aliya, Aiden, and Charley whom she showered with birthday and Christmas gifts. She had three great-grandnieces— Reia and Peyton— whose antics she enjoyed the weekend before this Thanksgiving, and 4-month-old Adelina Sammy, whom she had not yet met.

Born in Llanos Tuna, Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico on October 10, 1942, she married Pupo on June 6, 1963, two years after he gave her a ride from the airport when she first arrived from Puerto Rico. They were married for 49 years.

Olga’s family invites you to celebrate her life. Calling hours will be from 3 pm to 8:30 pm on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 West 76 Street, New York, NY 10023 (masks are required).

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, December 6, 2021, at 10 am at Holy Name of Jesus and St. Gregory Church, 207 West 96 Street, New York, NY 10025.

Interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
