Orlando Ian Norman

Orlando Ian Norman, 71, passed away on August 20, 2026. Born on August 14, 1955, in New York, NY, Orlando carried the steadiness of his hometown with him throughout his life—rooted, observant, and quietly sure of what mattered. He lived in New York, New York, and remained deeply connected to the city that first shaped him.

From the beginning, Orlando’s life was anchored by family and guided by a thoughtful sense of purpose. He was born to Horatio and Margery Norman and was the brother of Felix Norman. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Arts from Empire State College in Legal and Political studies, a path that reflected his measured intelligence and the kind of wisdom that listens carefully before it speaks.

Orlando served in the U.S Navy and was honorably discharged, bringing home with him a calm sense of duty and perspective that stayed evident in the years that followed. He devoted 26 and a half years to the New York City Human Resources Administration, serving as a Case Management Unit Supervisor. In that work, his guidance carried weight—not loud or showy, but steady and clear, the kind that helps others find their footing and move forward.

He was married to Irma (Nee Wilkins) Norman, and together they built a family bound by care and commitment. Orlando was a stepfather to three step children: Pilar Newton, Maya Azucena, and Eugene Robinson.

Away from the demands of work and responsibility, Orlando found meaning in writing and poetry. In those quieter pursuits, his inner life had room to breathe—expressing reflection, depth, and the gentle insight that so often marked the way he moved through the world.

Visitation will be held at Walter B. Cooke Funeral Home, 352 East 87th Street, New York, NY 10128, US, on August 24, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
