Ananth Parameswaran

April 19, 2021

AP was a leader of people, and it was not unusual for his family to be interrupted at home and outside by people he had mentored and advised. His fault, if he had one, was that he trusted everyone. While there were those who took advantage of him, there were many more who rushed to his side. Eventually, his goodness and strength of character saw him outlive the inevitable enemies of a successful man. AP was the epitome of India, as his closest friends came from all corners and religions of India.

AP loved his wife, Rajalakshmi (“Raji”) most of all, and in the end, their time together defined him. For him, nothing mattered more than taking care of Raji. That defined him to the very end.

A village has lost its shade. AP cast a tall shadow, and now we are all bereft of hope. Few could claim to have lived so boldly, achieved so much, and yet be ready to cast it all away on principle. He has surely escaped the cycle of birth and rebirth, having lived completely, given completely and embracing everything life threw at him.

AP will be mourned forever by those who loved him, and those he loved.

Ananthanarayan Parameswaran, known to many as “AP”, passed away on Friday April 16, 2021. He passed away surrounded by his nearest and dearest loved ones. For those who could not be there at the end, his memory will always live on in their hearts.

AP was a Giant of the Indian Water Treatment Industry, having built and established multiple organizations across different companies. He came from humble beginnings, born in the village of Koovapady in Kerala, and was one of eleven siblings. AP was the first in his family to go to Higher Secondary School, and the first to get a Bachelor’s Degree. He wore his first pair of shoes when he went to Higher Secondary School.

AP graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with Distinction from the College of Engineering, Trichur. He was very active on campus and was the Secretary of his graduating class. After a meteoric career in Industrial Manufacturing, AP became General Manager of Thermax’s Water Treatment Division at the age of 30. He then went on to many more successful positions and retired as Chairman and Managing Director of Indocan Engineering Systems Pvt. Ltd.

Along the way, AP took care of and uplifted his extended family, educating and settling his siblings and their children.

AP’s greatest delights were the time he spent with his wife and children. He took great pride in his children’s education, and was most proud of his daughter, Rekha Parameswaran, a Hematologic Oncologist at Sloan Kettering. For AP, there was no greater calling than the medical profession. His son, Ananth Parameswaran, followed closely in his footsteps, and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and then completed his MBA from Harvard University. AP spent as much time as he could with his children, and they are incredibly grateful for their time with him.
