

Philip Emmet Beekman, born 3 October 1931, passed away on 5 February 2022 at 90 years old. Born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey to Chester Carlyle and Madeline Davis Beekman, Philip attended St. Benedicts Preparatory School in Newark, NJ and was a 1953 graduate of Dartmouth College in Hanover New Hampshire. He was married to Nancy Bush of Verona, NJ for 50 years. They had four children: Elizabeth, Leslie, Philip, and Nancy.
A successful businessman, Philip began his career with the Colgate Palmolive Company in an entry level position directly out of college. In his 23 years with Colgate, he rose through the company and became President of the International Division. During his time at Colgate, Philip and his family moved around the world to various postings in Canada, Puerto Rico, and Argentina. After Colgate, he took a position at Joseph E. Seagram and Sons Ltd. as the President and COO, where he remained for nine years. In his final career venture, Philip became the CEO of Brooks and Hooks SuperX drug stores before retirement. He also served on multiple boards, as his business acumen was sought after by many.
Philip was a longtime member of the Metropolitan Opera Club and an ardent enthusiast of the performing arts. He was also actively involved in charitable giving throughout his life. He was an avid golfer, skier, hockey player, runner and sportsman.
Providing for his family was always a priority for Philip, ensuring his wife and children were well taken care of. He developed lifelong friendships with classmates from high school and college as well as with colleagues, that he held dear until his death. Friends and associates gravitated to Philip's charming, fun-loving personality, quick wit, and generosity.
Philip touched many lives, and his stories will live on through his family. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Nancy, his son, Philip and his sister, Marie Addis. He is survived by his three daughters, Elizabeth Beekman, Leslie Carter, and Nancy Beekman, son-in-law Jim Shirley, as well as his five grandchildren, Jameson, Sarah, Maxfield, Bradley, and Philip.
Visitation will be on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel located at 1076 Madison Avenue at 81st Street between the hours of 1pm and 5pm.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022 at 9am in the Lady's Chapel of St. Patrick's Cathedral on 5th Avenue at 50th Street, Manhattan, NY.
