Philip Hoffman, born May 12, 1948, in Brooklyn, New York, to Henry and Harriot Hoffman, lived a life filled with love, generosity, and quiet humor. He grew up in a close-knit family, deeply influenced by his grandparents Max and Adelle, and was always proud of his Jewish heritage, especially the day of his bar mitzvah.
A true son of the 1960s, Philip loved music, cars, and sports, especially baseball, which remained a lifelong passion. Though quiet by nature, he had a sharp, dry sense of humor and chose his friends wisely, valuing meaningful connections over many acquaintances.
Philip enjoyed a successful career in marketing, retiring at just 51. He took pride in being among the first to use “FREE SHIPPING” as a sales strategy, an innovation that became an industry standard.
Generous and kind, he lived by two mottos: “Live and let live,” and his grandfather’s wisdom, “If money is the problem, it isn’t a problem.” These sayings guided his life, shaped his relationships, and inspired his nieces and nephews. He supported countless causes and cherished family gatherings, especially holidays in Lancaster. He often said he had “the best in-laws in the world,” a bond he truly treasured.
Most of all, Philip adored his wife, often saying he had “won the lottery” in marriage. That devotion was felt every day and will forever be remembered.
Philip is survived by his wife Geralynn Madonna, his sister Linda Hoffman, his mother-in-law Theresa Madonna, sister-in-laws Linda Brown and Michele Madonna, brother-in-law Bill Brown, nephews Robert Better, Michael Better, Jason Better, Jason Brown, Devin Madonna, nieces Julianne Flood, Jessica Vasilou, Corinne Madonna-Samson, and Elysse Madonna-Busch. Also, his great-nieces and nephews, Max Philip Better, Hannah Barney Better, Luciana Vasilou, Danika Madonna Flood, Gigi Flood, Stella Dennis Samson, Brahm Samson, Anthony Madonna, Aubrey Madonna, and Margot Busch.
Philip Hoffman will be remembered as a kind, spiritual, and a UNIQUE man whose love lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
