Rebecca Beatrice Harvey, a cherished daughter of Maria and Walter Francis was born on July 15, 1929, in New York City. Betty, as friends and family knew her, peacefully passed away on February 16, 2024. Her parents were immigrants, Maria Richards Francis from San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic and Walter Francis, Antigua, British West Indies. Rebecca was the beloved mother of Teri Maria Harvey.
Rebecca attended New York City Public schools and graduated from Walton High School in the Bronx. After graduation she began a 40-year professional career at the New York Telephone Company. Rising through the ranks from clerk to operator to second level manager. Her commitment and leadership in her roles had a lasting impact on her colleagues and the community she served. After retirement, Rebecca graduated in May 1996 from The College at Sixty, Fordham University’s College at Lincoln Center.
In August 1955, Rebecca married Fitz A. Harvey, a NYPD officer. They were delighted at the birth of their daughter, Teri Maria, in August 1956. Beyond her successful career, Rebecca was a loving and devoted mother to Teri. Their bond was a source of strength and joy. She embraced the responsibilities of motherhood with grace and love.
Rebecca's legacy is one of resilience and strength. Her vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her and to every relationship she cultivated.
Rebecca was devoted to her family, especially her daughter Teri Maria, her friend Cindi Williams, her late nephew Leslie M. Edwards, her late mother Maria R. Francis, her late sister Ernesta M. Edwards and her late aunt Evelyn R. Williams. Rebecca will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
May Rebecca B. Harvey rest in eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire and comfort those who knew and loved her.
