I was very saddened to learn of Richard’s passing, but have warm memories of time spent with Richard and Jane in their Tanglewood home that will live on for me.  My parents were involved in a bad car accident in the Berkshires in the summer of 2008 and were hospitalized  for several weeks not far from Richard and Jane.  The two quickly offered me a bedroom in their cottage while I spent time visiting my parents.  I was out of the house most of the day, but would return in the evening to terrific kitchen table conversations with Richard and Jane that would do a lot to take my mind off my worries.   It seemed that we talked for a couple of hours about the events of the day and God knows what. else.  I think I drank wine, but Richard and Jane drank coffee late into the night.  Perhaps that’s why they were able regularly to outlast me, and seemed still quite charged up even as I ambled off to bed.  The generosity to family is what I especially remember about that time spent with Richard and Jane.  At a time when families, for whatever reason, do not seem  often to extend themselves beyond their immediate members, Richard and Jane were so generous in opening up their warm home to this member of their extended family.  I will always be grateful.

I love Richards energy, he was funny and friendly, it was nice to see him and Jane participate in the zoom programs that NYMC offered during COVID and so sorry that he is  not here to join us for the re-opening of the center.

Dick Brof had a very special place in my family's life.  I knew him for over 50 years and shared very happy moments with him and Jane.   We all loved music and some of my fondest memories include the times we spent with them at their home near Tanglewood and the wonderful concerts we attended together.
Dick and my late husband Don were both born in the Spring of 1935.  When they both turned 60 we held a joint birthday party for them.  The first half took place in our apartment where we served a buffet to the guests from both sides.  Then everyone walked up the street to the Brof residence where we all had birthday cake.  A joyful time was had by all.
Dick will be greatly missed.
