Please accept our deepest condolences on Rita's passing. She was so kind to our father, Sidney.

Participation in the Birthday Club were very special times for our father. He would tell us that Rita would insist on driving him home, especially when it was raining. The Birthday Club members are unique and amazing people, and the group will be lacking without Rita.

Warmest hugs,

Suzanne ans Carol Zelman

Dear BOB and KAREN & Family

We join you in mourning our dear friend RITA. What a shock that we will no longer be able to join her in PS171M reunions, which she faithfully coordinated for decades! And we sometimes met up for UFT trips and/or meals, or visited by phone. She was wonderful at remembering folks with cards on special occasions! We consulted on the care of our parents too!
I was able to make it to her funeral and was there to represent about 100 folks who could not make it due to the pandemic, illnesses, distance.... they were there in spirit! Rita was much loved and appreciated. I was glad to meet Karen, Olga & Brian after the funeral! All of you have my condolences, and know that many more join in mourning Rita. Special blessings for Bob! Love, Jane

Rita Maria Berge, My dearest Godmother and second Cousin, You have always been there for me all of my life even if we were not living in the same state. I am so heartbroken that you are gone. I will cherish the visits we had, the talks on the phone, the many cards that you have sent me over the years. You will always live in my heart and I miss you so much. Heaven got a precious angel when they got you. Please say hello to my aunt Elizabeth and Uncle Hubert, Mom and Dad and Teresa. I miss you and love you dearly. ❤😘

Rita: our dear friend..
An 'earth angel" who is now a "heavenly" angel.
We will remember her as an excellent third grade teacher at P.S. 171M in East Harlem where our paths crossed for the first time
in the 1960's....as a caring daughter who was an advocate for her parents... a devoted wife to her husband, Bob....a wonderful friend who never uttered a negative word against anyone.
She enjoyed her retirement going on many of my U.F.T. trips and theatre events. She took various courses at the U.F.T. including film; opera; and belly dancing.
She taught me the difference between Auslese and Spatlese German Reisling wines.
Her memory will be a blessing for us always.Rest in peace. Rita.

Dear Bob & Family,

We are so sorry for your loss & for the loss of our dear, long-time friend, Rita. Pat was 16 years old when she met Rita, through our friend Elena, at Cathedral High School. They continued their wonderful friendship at Hunter College.
Rita was a bridesmaid at our wedding on 11/20/65 & she sent us an anniversary card every year since. We will truly miss her as a kind & caring person who brought so much love to our lives & to all who were fortunate enough to know her. The BEST !!!

All our love,
Pat & Paul Markowski & Family
