HEINE - Robert E. Died in New York on November 3, 2011. He was born on October 17, 1918 in the Bronx. He was a lifelong reader and an intellectual in the true sense of the word. After graduating from Madison High School in Brooklyn, Bob joined the Army Air Corps at the beginning of World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He then began a 50 year working career in Transportation and Distribution that culminated in the position of Vice President of Distribution at ITT Rayonier and President of that Company's subsidiary, Sylvan Shipping. He also taught for many years at the Academy of Advanced Traffic and wrote a vocational text, Your Career in Traffic Management. He was extremely well-respected in the Distribution field, belonged to a number of organizations, and often lectured to industry groups. He returned to college at Columbia University, although he never finished his degree. His first love was his family, particularly his wife of 51 years, Mildred (Wagner), who predeceased him in 1992. Whenever he traveled on business without her, he always found a way to have their song, "I Can't Give You Anything But Love, Baby" played over the phone to her. He and Mildred traveled extensively. They loved Paris, but traveled all over Europe and even made a journey to Japan for the christening of one of the ITT Rayonier ships. After Mildred’s death he moved from their home in Stamford, CT to Manhattan. He is survived by his son Spencer and his wife Peggy, his son Dean and his wife Phyllis, and his grandchildren Darryl, Cory and his wife Carissa, Seth and his wife Mirka, and Josh and his wife Alyssa, and two great-grandchildren Madelyn and Macy.
