Ronald Korcak

Ronald Korcak, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, scientist and quietly curious citizen of the Upper West Side, passed from this life surrounded by the memories he cherished. Born in Queens, New York, he was the son of William Korcak and Mary Hilsky. He grew up with a love for books and the natural world, seeds that would later bloom into a life of learning and service.

Ronald's academic journey took him to Cornell University, where he deepened his appreciation for the sciences and on to the University of Maryland, where he earned a PhD in Soil Science. That expertise guided a long and purposeful career at the United States Department of Agriculture, where he worked thoughtfully to understand and protect the foundations of the land that sustains us.

Ronald was most at home among family and in places that fed his curiosity. He and his wife, Faye, made their life on the Upper West Side, where he volunteered frequently at the American Museum of Natural History, delighted by the chance to share the wonder of natural history with visitors and friends. His quiet enthusiasm and patient explanations became small gifts to anyone who crossed his path there.

Ronald is survived by his beloved wife, Faye Korcak; his son, Jason Korcak, and daughter-in-law, Angela Carrelli; and his grandchildren, Bruno and Rocco, who brought him light and laughter. He was predeceased by his brother William Korcak and sister Carol Sipp, and carried his parents' memory with him always.

Those who knew Ronald remember his generosity at the table—a lover of good food and wine—and his readiness to recommend a book that would open a new corner of the world. He delighted in conversation that wandered from current events to the latest sports highlight, and he made time for people in a way that felt both simple and profound.

Ronald's life was a steady, gentle shaping of curiosity into care: for his family, for science, and for the community he served. He will be missed for the warmth of his smile, the steadiness of his presence and the small rituals that made life richer. A Memorial Service will be held at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 333 Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY 10023 on Sunday September 27, 2026 at 2:00 pm.
