It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Rosemary (Rochford) Purcell, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who died peacefully on August 5, 2019. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Joseph and her sisters, Theresa (Rochford) Denny, Florence (Rochford) Varga and three brothers, Thomas, James and John Rochford.
Rosemary was selfless, generous and a caring person. She was a kind, intelligent and hardworking woman at Ellen’s Fine Chocolates for 25 years and then retired from the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company after 10 years. She was blessed with a full and satisfying life and enjoyed traveling cross country by bus with her husband and family vacations touring Ireland, Italy and cruising to Alaska, and Bermuda, playing bingo, crossword puzzles, reading and listening to Frank Sinatra.
Besides her daughter, Rosemary and her husband Michael Rocchio, she leaves her loving and devoted son Joseph (Bud) and daughter in law Yvonne Purcell. Grandma will be missed by her four granddaughters, Lauren, Meredith, Lindsey and Kelsey, and great granddaughter, Maeve.
We are forever grateful to the compassionate caregivers of Mary Manning Walsh Home, the lovely and devoted Carmelite Sisters, and New York Presbyterian Hospital 5th Floor Central.
Calling hours are August 18 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at The Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Ave (81st Street). Mass of the Christian Burial, August 19, 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel, 230 East 90th Street between Third & Second Ave.
