All who knew her have expressed a profound sense of loss with Ruth's passing.
Ruth was a youthful 94 year old with a deep level of interest in world events, politics, the arts and participated in many activities in her community. She had her aches and pains like any other senior but always made it a point to focus on others and offer words of comfort and encouragement.
Ruth worked as a para-professional alongside elementary school teachers in the South Bronx for many years until she retired at the age of 70. She especially enjoyed helping young children. During those years Ruth started to explore the world around her. Many of her co-workers not only became close friends but traveling companions, as well. Ruth’s husband’s, Philip, was the best of providers and took very few vacations so she could join her friends and make trips to Israel, Turkey and many European countries.
What’s become apparent since she left us is how big a difference she made in peoples lives whether it was her fellow choral group singers, her discussion group members, her dentist, her neighbors, her family, friends and especially her daughter. She was a cheerful woman, always ready to greet you with a smile on her face and an open mind. It was these qualities that made her a generous listener to whatever anyone wanted to share with her.
Simply put... she was a joy to be with.
Ruth was a philanthropist and made regular donations to animal protection organizations, environmental groups, Hadassah and, most recently, Meals-on-Wheels in New York City. It’s a program that provides free nutritious meals to any senior regardless of financial means but it was just like Ruth to give back if she could and she ended up making regular monthly donations. All those who would like to make a contribution in her name can make their donation through www.citymeals.org or by contacting:

Ruth will be greatly missed by all.
