Sammy, out of all of my mother's (Shirley's) many friends, you were always at the top of my list. But, it shouldn't be any surprise, because my mother and I have similar values. People who are good and kind, and who have more heart than anything else, that's worth more than anything to us. 

You must know how much my mother loves you. Whenever you would call her, or she would call you, she always told me that she loves you like a dear brother. You were really like a brother to her.  Countless times she told me how kind you were to her, how you were always there for her, and how you and Bernice always begged her to visit you. Believe me, she would have visited you if there was a remote chance that she physically could have.  

Sammy, my mother also told me how my son, Justin, at only 3 years old, would sit next to you at the pool, and was happy just to be near you when you read the newspaper. How he and you would have conversations. He's 23 now, and can converse with the best of them. Because you see, he did at a very early age. Yes, you were entwined in our lives.

My mother didn't tell me of your passing until today because she didn't want to upset me while I was moving. It appears that you and I were both re-locating on the same day. I hope your new place is filled with all the love and happiness that you gave to others.

I probably never told you that I love you. That's something that I hope I at least showed.

You are leaving a wonderful legacy. The love and warmth that your family and friends feel everytime they think of you.

To My Dear Uncle Sam,
I will miss you more than you could possibly imagine. I will never forget you and Bernice being there for my mother when she passed. You were more than my uncle, you were like a father to me.
