MRS ROSNER WAS MY TEACHER FOR MANY YEARS AT WOODYCREST HOME IN THE BRONX., I HAVE VERY FOND MEMORIES OF HER. AND FREQUENTLY HARRY WHEN HE WOULD PICK HER UP.

I first met Sophie when I was nineteen years old.  Sophie was the mother of my new friend Adrienne whom I'd just met in a studio art class at Queens College.  Adrienne soon invited me to dinner and overnight at her parents' apartment where I would meet her dad, Alex, her brothers, David R. and David P., and, of course, Sophie. For me, it was the beginning of fifty years of love and gratitude.  Sophie welcomed me at her table.  She was interested and kind, non-judgmental and discreet.  I don't recall how much I might have revealed about my deep unhappiness at home, but I do know that in visits with Sophie that spanned almost fifty years, I often mentioned those early times and thanked her for her generosity.  Adrienne and David, I am sorry that you've lost Sophie, but her life was remarkably rich and long, and you have been wonderful children.

What more could one ask of life than to raise amazing children, teach other children, oppose racism and injustice, and live to 96? Therefore, I send only mild condolences but strong appreciations for Sophie's life well lived.
