Stanley Theophilus Cato was born on October 31, 1957 to Oscar Cato and Hilda Daley in the picturesque hills of St. Andrew, near the bustling city of Kingston, Jamaica. At the age of 12, Stanley immigrated to the United States to live with his father and stepmother Doris Smith. Stanley started out as a Bronx resident and eventually moved to Brooklyn where he wed his high school sweetheart, the lovely Marie Senechal on February 3, 1979.
Stanley laid his roots in Brooklyn and vowed not to move anywhere else. He and Marie purchased a house in Old Mill Basin in 1999 and took vacations every year after that to a different North American locale. He collected wood carvings and had sculptures from over 15 countries.
Stanley is remembered for his devotion to his family and his career as a registered nurse at Beth Israel Medical Center. He saved numerous lives in his 22 years of service in the emergency room and was beloved by his colleagues. He was a man of eclectic and sometimes clashing tastes, from his love of reggae to his deep appreciation of James Bond films to his passion for cars. Stanley was always full of warmth, vigor, and love for his fellow man.
He is survived by his loving wife Marie, son Calvin, brothers Ronald and Calvin, sisters Joyce and Rima, mother Hilda, and his neighbors, friends, and extended family. May his soul rest in peace.
