Stephen Goller

Steve Goller, a native New Yorker, beloved father, grandfather, and dedicated companion, has passed away at the age of 85. Steve leaves behind a legacy filled with love, adventure, generosity and many friendships.

Steve fell in love early. He met Esther “Etty” Bielawsky in high school. Steve and Etty married in 1959 and shortly thereafter had two daughters, Debbie and Michele. Steve and Etty, a native of Israel, had a taste for adventure. With two young daughters they moved to Israel for a promising business opportunity in the developing new country. Steve and Etty spent nearly a decade in Israel, navigated the highs and lows of entrepreneurship and forged lifelong friendships that were a hallmark of Steve’s life. In 1976, Stephen returned to New York to helm the family real estate business in Queens. He finally sold the business and retired in 2000. After retiring, Steve was able to focus on his family, particularly his grandchildren, to whom he was known as Shish. Shish dedicated his love and support to all of them as they channelled his sense of adventure around the globe, from San Francisco to Tel Aviv and everywhere in between.

Steve found renewed love and companionship with Wendy Kantor, another life-long New Yorker. They also shared a wonderful love for their two dogs, Mindie and Trixie, as well as all things New York, including dining out, theatre and community service. Steve maintained close relations with his high school buddies, speaking with them frequently and sharing stories about their families and other friends. Steve spent his last few months at 305 West End Assisted Living, where he again struck up friendships with residents and staff alike. He loved to talk and took great interest in the stories of all those around him.

Steve will leave a void in the hearts of all those who knew him, but the memories of time spent together will continue to warm our hearts

A funeral service for Stephen will be held Sunday, April 7, 2024 at 9:30 AM at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 West 76th Street, New York, NY 10023.
