She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Alan; her children, Laurie and Adam; her cherished grandchildren, Ezra, Naomi, Macey, and Jonah; and her sister, Ellen.
Susan studied linguistics at Cornell University. Soon after graduating, she met the love of her life, Alan, through a mutual friend. Together they built a life centered on family, curiosity, and adventure.
Susan was happiest when spending time with her family, traveling, and reading. She and Alan shared many wonderful trips together, and she especially enjoyed the elephants she saw on her African safari in South Africa and Botswana; her travels through Cairo and Alexandria in Egypt; her wanderings amidst the Mayan ruins in the Yucatan peninsula; and her trips to China and Japan When she wasn't traveling to faraway places, she loved traveling through books, especially British murder mysteries.
Susan devoted herself to caring for those she loved. She was a full-time stay-at-home mother for seven years and later became a full-time "Nana" to two of her grandchildren for another eight years, roles she treasured deeply.
Between those chapters of her life, Susan worked as a focus group moderator in the advertising industry for several firms. Her kindness, warmth, genuine curiosity about people, and exceptional listening skills made her not only an outstanding focus group moderator but also a treasured friend, mother, grandmother, and wife.
Susan will be remembered for her generous heart, quiet intelligence, and the love she gave so freely to her family and friends.
