Moose was always called Moose by me even though she was once my mother-in-law. I never called her Vera, or mom, or ma. It was always Moose.  Moose was the name given her by her kids, and somehow it was fitting and natural. So, she always was and always will be Moose.
Moose was a daughter, a sister, a wife, and a mother. She was an excellent mother. She was a better mother to me than my own. She was a student, a teacher, an artist, a perfectionist, a friend, a counselor, an activist and a home maker. 
I never heard an ill word from her about anyone except socialists and the Co-op management. They might actually be one and the same.
She was the best cook and memories of Thanksgiving Diner and Passover Seders where she prepared the dishes, are for ever ingrained in my brain. She introduced me to Postum, and ice coffee, charoset and Gefilte Fish. I loved her meals. There always seemed to be some kind of Entenmann’s baked good on the kitchen table. I loved her meals and loved being with her and the family. Her wit and wisdom was always an enhancement of the meal.
Most of all, I remember her kind and nurturing nature. As I prepare this, all kinds of moments pass through my head about Moose, from helping with a sick cat, and a sick son-in-law to chopping shrubs ands trees on Fire Island, to even visiting my currents wife’s art show at a gallery in Chelsea. She was liked very easily. I remember watching her as she greeted a cousin in Budapest which she probably had not seen in 45 years and was acting like best of friends and waddling together down a Hungarian street. She was a wonderful soul who would rather receive a power tool over a piece of jewelry.
Moose, I do not know if you knew how important you were to me, but I wish I had told you while you were on this plane of existence. Thank you for all you did for me and all the things you did for many others. You are a tsedeykes, a female mench. I had to throw in a little Yiddish.
I hope our journeys cross paths again .
