Vera Jiji, née Vera Rose Fox, lived a full life deserving of celebration. Born in the Bronx on April 6, 1928, the daughter of Hungarian immigrants who worked in the needle trades, she was a proud graduate of NYC’s High School of Music and Art and received a PhD in Literature from New York University.
She earned grants and awards for her innovative teaching projects as a Full Professor of English and Theater at Brooklyn College. She self-published three books on cello playing, one an Amazon best seller, and played in amateur orchestras and chamber groups well into her 90s.
She was married twice, widowed once, and raised four children, all of whom survive her, as does her tremendously devoted husband, Latif. She is also grandmother to three grandsons, who she inspired with music and chess lessons. All who knew her will miss her omnivorous intelligence, bold enthusiasm, and warmth.
Burial to follow at New Montefiore Cemetery.
