

Wanda Elaine Holt was born at Harlem Hospital on April 10, 1942, Wanda was the second oldest of seven children born to Harry and Lillie Mae Holt. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and one sister. She was raised in New York City and graduated from Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn, NY. Wanda married Mario Astorga in 1963 and from this union came two children, Mario and Sonji.
Wanda's career in Public Health was one of care and concerns. She dedicated over 35 years of service to Betances Health Center on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where she played a key role in its transformation from a mobile screening van into the thriving clinic and community institution it is today. Her passion for public health and her commitment to the well being of others left a leading impact.
Wanda had a vibrant spirit and a love for life. She enjoyed salsa dancing, traveling, spending time with family and friends, cheering her favorite pro football team, the Oakland Raiders, playing adventure games on her computer and tackling a good crossword puzzle. She was an avid reader and loved a good thriller or mystery novel. Wanda loved horror movies and often enjoyed watching them with her Granddaughter. She also loved stand-up comedy, and loved to laugh. Wanda touched the lives of many people with her joyous laughter and generosity.
She was deeply loved and respected by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
Wanda is survived by her son, Mario and his wife, Tanya; devoted daughter, Sonji; three grandchildren, Christian, Orlando and Samara; one great granddaughter, August; along with a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends who will forever cherish her memories.
