William Franklin Erber

June 1, 1941 – August 22, 2026

William Franklin Erber, M.D., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, physician, and friend passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026, at the age of 85.

Born and raised in Brooklyn to Marcia and Dr. Sigmund Erber. William’s life was grounded in family, medicine and a lifelong devotion to learning and growth.

William, known to many as Bill or Billy, graduated from the Yeshiva of Flatbush and Muhlenberg College before earning his medical degree from Chicago Medical School. He completed his Internal Medicine training at Maimonides Medical Center and went on to complete a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He spent a sabbatical at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem and also served in the United States Air Force. He attained the rank of Major and was a member of the tennis team.

Bill’s life was deeply rooted on Ocean Parkway, where he grew up and practiced medicine for a combined 75 years. He cared for patients as part of a three-generation family practice founded by his father. Bill loved teaching and spent many years mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows over the course of his career.

Sixty years ago, Bill met Ingrid, the woman who would become his beloved wife. They were married for 59 years and built their life together in the Rockaways, where they raised their five children.

Bill’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by Ingrid and their five children: Gregory Erber (Anna Peris); Karina Lubowitz (Aaron); Jonathan Erber (Alyssa); Joanna Gross (Adam); and Jeremy Erber (Randi). He was the proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren, Daniel and Zachary Erber, Benjamin, Hannah and Jordan Lubowitz, Sophie, Dylan and Emily Erber, Ella and Alexandra Gross; Liam, and Graham Erber.

He is preceded in death by his Brother, Barry. He is survived by his sister Susan Sagiv (Indiani) and Sister-in-Law Susan Erber.

Outside of medicine, Bill embraced life with energy and curiosity. He was an avid skier and tennis player, a devoted classical pianist, and a lifelong lover of opera, the beach and endless walks in Central Park. These passions brought him joy and became part of the fabric of the family life he so deeply cherished.

A Funeral Service will be held at Riverside Memorial Chapel on August 26, 2026, at 12:30 pm.
