Now at peace and holding eternal access to center ice for the Rangers at Madison Square Garden and club seats for the Giants at MetLife stadium, Bill Sandow passed away on April 10, 2026 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City after a brief illness. His devoted wife, Carol, and their faithful pugs Josie and Jemma, never left his side and were always supported by his loving family.
Bill’s beloved father, William J. Sandow of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, is now left with indelible memories of father-son trips, taking in the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and time together at the casino. He will forever have a guardian angel guiding his NASCAR bets. Bill’s brother, Thomas Long of Fletcher, North Carolina, father-in-law Kenneth A. Schimmelpfenneg of Battle Creek, Michigan,sister-in-law, Nancy Schimmelpfenneg and brother-in-law, Christopher Hanlon, of Swampscott, MA, and nephews and nieces join Carol in mourning this great loss.
Bill was a longtime resident of New York, moving to the city after graduating from Boston College and Indiana University, where he received his MBA from the Kelly School of Business. Bill was Vice President and Portfolio Manager at State Street Investment Management, with prior experience as a finance and accounting professional with more than twenty-five years of experience in the industry. Bill also worked tirelessly on their Co-Op Board, to improve the life and longevity for their close knit building community.
While his professional career provided Bill with pride and accomplishment, it was his wife Carol whom he treasured most in the world. Bill and Carol made the most of their city, enjoying all it has to offer in the arts, sporting events and the wide range of culinary delights, never getting too cultured of a palette for his favorite: pizza. Bill’s favorite activity was walking their dogs in their Upper West Side neighborhood and in Central Park. Josie and Jemma were the apples of Bill’s eye, after losing his first cherished pups Rudy and then Daisy. Carol, their dogs and NYC were home.
Bill’s mother, Joan Sandow, mother-in-law, Marty Schimmelpfenneg, and dearly loved pugs, Rudy and Daisy, predeceased him in death. He will be deeply missed by his wife Carol, family, friends and colleagues. Josie and Jemma will have less pep in their step on their daily walks without their Bill.
It is Carol's greatest wish that Bill's family, friends and work colleagues please leave memories, stories and pictures on this page, to share in the wonderful life of Bill Sandow. Carol asks, in lieu of flowers, that charitable donations be made in Bill’s name to The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center of New York City. https://www.amcny.org/?form=donate
A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a further date.
