Dear Lillian and Family,

I was away from New York for 4 months and returned to NY three weeks ago. I am shocked to learn that Bill passed away. He was always very friendly at film press screenings, wonderful to talk about films, always wise, full of good spirits,  and a great source of film information. Once he invited me to his film course in the late 1990s and it is such a fond memory. I miss him and his legacy.  Kyoko

As I reflect on the legacy our sweet William Wolf leaves behind, I cannot help but feel gratitude --- for having had the privilege to know such a brilliant man. He was light, goodness and warmth personified, and his generosity of spirit shined in every conversation we shared.  He and his beautiful wife always beamed with love, and that is how I will always remember him. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his beloved Lillian and his dear family. Thank you, Mr. Wolf, for a life of dignity, grace, curiosity and wit. You were a giant among men, and I will miss you so very much. All my love....and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ❤

Frederic and I used to see William Wolf at film screenings in Manhattan. We always enjoyed talking with him and hearing how his students responded to movies we also enjoyed. His enthusiasm for film was contagious, and his respect for filmmakers and filmgoers was obvious.  The film community has lost a great friend! 


I will always remember Mr. Wolf coming in  and getting coffee, reading the paper, and we would   discuss the recent plays and films that we had both been seeing. Oh how the arts enthralled him! But he was also truly curious about what was happening in my life as an actor and always filled my shifts at work with  words of encouragement and wisdom. I can only imagine all the people’s lives he touched and the extraordinary life he has lived, may your light shine for a long time to come Mr.Wolf! 

William was one of those extraordinary people that I couldn’t wait to see. 
Always looking dapper. Always with a smile on his face and a sparkle in his eyes. Always kind, wise, witty.  He cared to hear our stories. He was always finding time to show his support.  He  enlightened us with the best in film and theater. And he was just so easy going! He was ending every interaction by telling a new joke (God bless his memory!) - leaving you with a smile while he was walking away. 
My deepest condolences to Lillian and the family. We lost a very special Man.  But we will never forget the trail he was leaving behind himself for us to see, feel, and follow. Trail of a happy light. Thank you, William.

Mr. Wolf was a wonderful character and a beloved regular at at Cafe Luxembourg. His presence will be sorely missed. My sincerest condolences goes to his family and everyone who was honored to have met him. 

Mr. Wolf will be so terribly missed by the whole Cafe Luxembourg family.  It’s hard to even imagine the restaurant running without him sitting at table 2 or with his beloved Lillian at table 9.   He was so funny and kind and would so generously share his opinions on the current theater scene with all of us on the staff.  He loved his wife and family so much and I loved to listen to him recount his many fond memories of the times he had with them.  I’m so grateful to have known him and for the time I got to spend with him.  I will miss him.   

Mr Wolf was so beloved of everyone at Cafe Luxembourg, but the highest regard came from those of us that worked there. He would light up the whole restaurant upon walking in the door; igniting a spark of, "Mr. Wolf is here!". He was generous with his time, kind with his words, and showed up when you'd least expect it to support those of us that admired him. We will miss you dearly.

I would always have a seat next to Mr Wolf to listen to his very very funny jokes at the New York Film Festival at Lincoln Center.  I would find myself laughing to myself just thinking about his jokes. I will miss him .
