Albert Carter was born February 19, 1935 to Claude D. and Nellie Mae Carter of Georgiana, Alabama. He was the sixth child out of 8 brothers and sisters. Albert was approximately 14 years old in 1949 when he and his family relocated to the San Fernando Valley in California where he attended San Fernando Jr. High. Shortly after the move his father passed away from a massive heart attack and his mother was left alone to provide for the family.
Albert was attending San Fernando High School at the time and he dropped out to get a job so he could help his mother. Determined to finish school and get his diploma he attended Evening High School and there he graduated on June 18, 1954. After High School he and his younger brother, Jerry D. Carter, were amateur boxing sensations and he also became a Hospital Aide in 1956 for the Veteran's Administration. After a long journey at his young age of life he meets the love of his life Ucylene Maye better known as “say ahhh Ucy" as he calls her. He knew of Ucylene back in Alabama, but never knew she would later come to be this very special person in his life. They married December 24, 1959 in Pacoima, Ca. In that union they had two beautiful children a daughter Joyce Marie Carter and a son Thomas Albert Carter. Albert worked really hard in Real Estate and Construction to build a great life for his family. He was a serious, strict and stern man, but he was also very loving, caring and generous.
One thing Albert loved was his music. He graduated from Los Angeles Music Conservatory. His music was something that he was very passionate about. Music was a way of life for him not just a hobby and the fact that he shared that passion amongst his two brother; Roman and Jerry D. Carter and also just like a brother Jimmy Morris made it all the more special. They were known as The Carter Brother's and they were a world renowned Blues band. He also loved his McDonald's coffee, which he drank every morning without any cream or sugar, just black. He was a diehard Laker fan and he was one of those that coached the game from home yelling at the television. Any time they would mess up he would say “aww foot bump that bull crap".
Although he loved these things very much everything and everyone took a backseat when his grandkids came along. Quay, Kavon and Lynzee had arrived and he loved those kids with all his heart. He made it a point for them to know how proud he was of them and how much he love and cared for them. He showed his love through hugs, kisses and sliding us a $20 dollar bill every time he saw them.
Albert gave his life to Christ at an early age; he was an active member of Greater Community Baptist Missionary Church in Pacoima, Ca. He was a remarkable man and he has left us with so much wisdom, love and generosity that came from the very bottom of his heart. He will forever be missed and loved by all that had a chance to know such an amazing man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Morris and Jerry D. Carter; two sisters: Dorthy Marsh and Clarene Cowans and Ed Stallworth (who was like a brother to all the brothers).
Albert passed from this world to the next on Monday, March 26, 2012 after 77 years of life, he leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Ucylene Carter; one daughter Joyce Marie Carter-Dozier; one son Thomas Albert Carter; one daughter-in-law Lisa Diann Carter of Palmdale, CA; four Grand children: JaQuay M.
