My sincere sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Artie Williams, whom I met when he came to Puerto Rico on a scuba diving trip with the National Association of Black Scuba Divers.  We quickly became professional colleagues and have stayed in touch for the last decade or so. I was truly saddened to receive a copy of his funeral program in response to my annual Christmas card this year.  Now, I know why he didn't send me his usual yuletide greeting. He was truly a happy soul and will be missed tremendously! May the memories of him be the happiest of all.

Wow Im in shock. What a great guy. Was a neighbor for almost 27yrs. Always felt safe just knowing he was a few doors down. My son knew him his whole life. We walked by his dood yesturday he touched it and said " Am I really never going to see him again". My heart goes out to his family. He was someone vey special.

I have waited for days to find the right words to say about my "Best Friend".  After reading the many, many, wonderful and truthful comments from all of his friends from coast to coast I wondered what could I add. We shared so much.
 
I met Artie over forty years ago at VCU. He was my football teammate, my apartment roommate, my road dog, my extended family, and everything that you wanted in a best friend. Till the day he died I never had an argument with my best friend. I was looking forward to seeing him in a few days; but only after he had visited his mother,sisters,and cousin Drew. That's the way he was. That day never came.

When I think of Artie, I think of the profound love he has for his family, his dedication to his job, his passion for diving, and his propensity to makiing everyone he comes in contact with feel special and you know he is going to make sure he'll be with you forever.  About 10 years ago, I meet Artie through scuba diving and he use to spoon feed me his passion. We buddy up and never once did I doubt our safety. He protected me like a whale protecting its calf, and never let me out of his sight on land or in water.  Weekly calls and text messages, holiday cards (he thought about everyone).  Always a gentleman.   I loved that constant smile...sometimes it was slightly crooked to the side with a twinkle in his eyes.  Artie is a man who showed the love will spread the love.  And in returned he was love by all.  My condolences to Artie's loving family.

To Mrs. Williams & Family, I will always think fondly of Artie, my first college love. His kindness and friendship was amazing. Artie was such a blessing to me every time I would see him at sports events around the city of Los Angeles. Artie didn't have to use a lot of words to get his point across...and he did everything with a smile and with incredible professionalism. He was a pro's pro. He would always go out of his way to reach out to me to say hi. I didn't know Artie outside of working besides him as a fellow journalist...but his presence spoke volumes about the type of person he was. It was such a blessing to see him. I could count on that great, big smile and that generous, "Hey, brother. Everything okay?" Thank you for enriching my life, Artie...I know you are in a place where God can use you. The Williams family has been my extended family for over 35 years.  The loss of Artie was a loss of a family member for me as well. To us all he was such a son, a brother, an uncle, a brother-in-law, a cousin and a friend.  I pray that the Lord continues to look over my family during this extremely difficult time but give you all peace in knowing Artie is in Heaven still with family.  May his kind heart and the good memories of Artie live forever.

My friendship with Artie began in Richmond, VA at VCU and was renewed upon my moving to Glendale, CA  ironically near Artie's job at ABC News. Artie was always the most kind and supportive friend anyone could want. He was always a gentle man with the most beautiful spirit. Artie was a well loved member of a book club that my husband and I belong to and he had an open mind toward new adventures and new friends. Artie's love for God, his family, diving and other sports was coupled with his respect and love for people. We will miss Artie greatly but we will carry him in our hearts forever.

Artie was a true gentleman and such a nice person to work with! You're already missed! Thanks for all the laughter and for always doing your best! RIP my friend!

I worked with Artie at KABC a handful of times back in the 80's when there were two on an ENG crew. We were both cameramen/sound technicians.  I didn't know Artie well;  I only knew that he was a nice guy.  I left LA in '89 to move to Atlanta.  In 2006 I was nearly killed in an accident.  While I was home recuperating the phone rang.  It was Artie calling just to see how I was.  It was a call I never expected.  And I will never forget that kindness.

I met Artie over 20+ years ago through Sam Vaughn. I remember Artie as being a gentle and kind man. He always had a smile on his face, twinkle in his eyes and a cute little chuckle. Artie was a great co-worker and friend.  I met him for the first time just a few days short of 30 years ago when he was hired at KABC-TV.  We had lots of adventures together both on and off the clock over the years.  His constant great attitude and smile really upped the game for anyone who knew him.  He was truly the real deal.

I wish everyone had an Artie in their lives.  There are really people in this world who are genuine and nice.  There are people in this world who aren't selfish or users.  Every life Artie touched was one less jaded, for we knew the truth about the caliber of people that exist in this world.  Artie was honest and fun, a top notch human being.  It's hard for me to imagine him resting in peace because I've never known anyone who loved life like Artie.  Artie LOVED his life.  He was always so positive and enthusiastic about EVERY SINGLE DAY of his life.  Artie was a teacher in life, whose absence is deeply felt, whose personality is sorely missed and hopefully, whose lessons will be passed along. "My Artie".  I claim him as mine, because we have been best friends for over 25 yrs.  From the beginning of our meeting he was the true essence of a friend and became the brother that I never had. We never let a week go by  without talking, texting, or emailing (unless he was out of the country).  We were BFF's.  We were buddies and shared our week-to-week life experiences with each other.  Artie spent many holidays with my family, and you could count on him always being on time :). Each and every year he would send me a card for my birthday, Mother's day, and Xmas, plus call. He was so devoted to his family, friends, job, & co-workers.  He loved everybody, and was loved by all.  He was, without question, a "great guy."  He loved life, traveling, diving, and being single :)  He was so excited about his plans for his birthday, the dive and upcoming trip to visit his family. No one could have known that last Friday was going to be my last time communicating with my Artie.  I am so blessed that Artie became my best friend.  I loved my Artie, and I miss him dearly.  I am devastated of losing my Artie; that we all lost Artie.  It was his time to move on.  I am comforted by continuing to see my Artie in the eyes of my memories, and talking to my Artie through God's grace.   My sincere blessings, prayers, and love continue for his family.
