Gus “Sonny” is survived by wife Patricia of 53 years, son Steven and wife Jennifer, daughter Kristin and wife Rachel, sisters Phyllis and Marilyn, brothers Clifford and Michael, grandchildren Zachary, Jacob, Cory, Cameron, Riley and Ryden.
Sonny was born in Waterville, Maine on April 22, 1945. In 1965, at the young age of 20, he set forth to California to pursue his passion for baseball. He married the love of his life, Patricia, in 1967 and had son, Steven in 1969. He was soon drafted into the Vietnam War and served two years as an Army Sergeant, where he earned his Bronze Star metal. Once returning home, he graduated from Chapman University (Orange, CA) with his BS in Criminal Justice and became a Sheriff in 1972. Sonny and Pat had daughter Kristin, in 1975. Sonny stayed on the police force as Sergeant for 33 years and retired in 2003 with countless awards. In retirement, he built his dream cabin in his home state of Maine and spent every summer there with family and friends.
Sonny had a love for sports, especially for the Los Angeles Dodgers and New England Patriots. But nothing topped his love for his family and spending time with them. Even though he was a quiet man, you always knew he was listening and was genuine in his care for you. He was a strong and determined man that would drop everything to help anyone. He was a hard worker, at his job and at home, always giving 100% in everything he did. He believed that you should take a moment to look around and appreciate everybody and everything around you.
