Dale Harold Hetzel, born on February 17, 1936, in Effingham, Illinois, passed away on June 20, 2026, at the age of 90.
When Dale was 10 years old, his family moved to California, where he built a life rooted in hard work, faith, and family. In 1956, he married his childhood sweetheart, Alma Aline Vickers, beginning a loving marriage that lasted nearly 69 years until Alma’s passing on September 17, 2025. Their enduring love and commitment were an inspiration to everyone who knew them.
In 1957, Dale and Alma made Newhall, California, their home, where they lovingly raised their four children.
In his early married years, Dale proudly served as an Army Reservist. He also enjoyed a long career in the grocery industry, where he held management positions and earned the respect of coworkers through his strong work ethic, leadership, and integrity.
Dale had a passion for learning and found great joy in reading. He was also an avid gardener who took pride in cultivating beautiful gardens, finding peace and satisfaction in watching things grow.
A lifelong sports fan, he faithfully cheered on the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Los Angeles Dodgers, rarely missing a game. Family and friends knew they could always count on Dale to be following his favorite teams and sharing in every season’s highs and lows.
Dale was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alma Aline Hetzel, and his son, Daniel Hetzel.
He is survived by his loving children: Jennie McKinley and her husband, Leonard McKinley; Andrew Hetzel and his wife, Kristen Hetzel; and Susan Garland and her husband, Steven Garland. He also leaves behind 10 cherished grandchildren, 17 beloved great-grandchildren, extended family, and many dear friends who will forever treasure his love, guidance, and example.
Though Dale deeply missed Alma after her passing, he carried her memory with him every day. His family takes great comfort in knowing they are reunited once again.
A joint celebration of life honoring both Dale and Alma will be held at a future date, near what would have been their 70th wedding anniversary, celebrating a lifetime of love, devotion, and the family they built together.
Forever loved. Forever remembered.
