He earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, where he met his future wife, Eleanor Estioko. They married on January 28, 1962, in Munoz, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, and they raised their family in Dupax Del Norte, Nueva Vizcaya. Their marriage bore them 7 children.
Throughout his more than 30-year tenure at the Department of Agriculture in Nueva Vizcaya, he held multiple positions, rising through the ranks from Technician to Supervisor, Provincial Agriculturist, and Municipal Agricultural Officer. His knowledge of modern rice farming techniques substantially enhanced crop yields in his province during his tenure. His lifelong love of farming and understanding of farmers' challenges made him a highly effective educator and support system. We firmly believe his impact on modern rice farming will be remembered for years to come.
Motorcycling was a profound passion in his life. Proceeds from his first rice harvest enabled him to purchase his initial motorcycle, a 250cc Kawasaki, which became his primary mode of transportation between his hometown and university campus, a 325km journey lasting around 5 to 6 hours. His riding skills were renowned, exemplified by his ability to ride with closed eyes. Although involved in several accidents, providence always intervened. His children have enduring memories of sharing rides with him.
Upon immigrating to the US in 1993 with wife and two youngest children, he re-entered the workforce to help provide for his family. Following retirement, he actively supported his children by managing school transportation for his grandchildren and preparing meals for them when they return from school. He also devotedly cared for his wife for many years, as she faced health issues, until his own health deteriorated when he had a stroke in July. His passing will surely impact his wife, forever altering her life.
He was known for his generosity, frequently preparing meals for friends and family regardless of occasion, ensuring ample food for all and providing leftovers to take home was his custom. This trait persisted until he became very ill due to his stroke.
He and his wife were both strong supporters of Sherman Oaks United Methodist Church. He trusted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and we believe he is now in the bosom of the Lord God Almighty as promised by the Lord Jesus in John 6:47, "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life".
