Dorothy Jeanne Stevens of Granada Hills, California, left this life, peacefully in her sleep, on February 22, 2022, at the age of 98. She was born on the family farm in Cambria, Iowa to Ruth and Chester Miner on September 2, 1923. She moved to California with her husband after WW2, where she lived until her passing.
Dorothy was a devoted wife to her husband George E. Stevens, who preceded her in death by 22 years. Dorothy and George had been happily married just shy of 60 years at George’s death. Dorothy was also preceded in death by three of her brothers: Bill, Dick, and Jack Miner; all her sisters-in-law; and all of George’s siblings and their wives.
Dorothy was a caring and loving mother to her two children, Susan Stevens Blackburn (Don) of Newbury Park and Timothy C. Stevens (Lori) of Granada Hills. She was an adoring grandmother to Jessica, Kyle, Nichole (“Coey”), Dillon, Colby (“Alex”), Ted (“Teddy”), and Faith. She was thrilled to be a great-grandmother to JaNasjia, Mario, Gavin, Deker, Jaden, Drew, and Emet and blessed to be a great-great-grandmother to Kye. Dorothy also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and she was a favorite aunt to all.
Dorothy lived a life of love and giving. She was fondly known as Momo to her three generations of grandchildren and any young person who had the opportunity to come into her life.
Dorothy was an active member of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, serving at various times over the last three decades as Deaconess and Bible Study (Table) leader and Grace Life participant. She wrote letters of encouragement to shut-ins. She had many dear friends at Grace who also mourn her passing.
Dorothy’s home was always open to all and it was a rare Thanksgiving or Christmas when there wasn’t a beloved guest to grace the table.
Dorothy retained her active mind and sharp intelligence to the very end. She was a particular fan of the newspaper crosswords and did up to three crosswords daily, in ink.
While Dorothy’s family deeply mourns her earthly loss, they are comforted by the fact that she was a firm believer in the saving grace of Jesus Christ and that because of that, they know they will be together again.
A funeral and interment service will be held April 4 at Noon at Eternal Valley Memorial Park, 23287 North Sierra Highway, Newhall, CA 91321. There will be a reception at Dorothy’s home following the service. All are welcome.
