

He attended Butler High School, and dreamt of playing professional football for the Pittsburgh Steelers or enrolling in the French Foreign Legion.
After high school he enrolled at Virginia Military Institute, characterized as the West Point of the South, seeking a military career. He was a member of the football squad.
After completing one year a VMI, Edmund Lutes decided to attend Pennsylvania State University on a boxing scholarship. Edmund joined the ROTC program and became a Midshipman aboard the Battleship USS IOWA, which presently serves as a museum in the San Pedro Bay.
Edmund graduated from Pennsylvania State University earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1956, and soon after he accepted a commission as a United State Marine Officer.
Edmund Lutes served his country proudly as a Marine officer and received his Honorable Discharge on June 30, 1962.
Edmund seeking civilian employment faced the decision to become either an engineer or a police officer. He decided on the later since the Los Angeles Police Department offered a pension after 20 years of service.
Edmund proudly served his community of Los Angeles policeman. He was given the badge number 11413.
Edmund married his wife Galina on December 11, 1965.
Edmund rose to the rank of Police Sergeant and became a detective in prestigious branch of the LAPD known as the Organized Crime Intelligence Division. As a detective he was responsible for protecting the citizens of Los Angeles from various threats that ranged from the Mafia to the KGB.
Edmund made the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics safe through his counter intelligence work. He received a letter from Peter Ueberroth thanking him for his efforts.
While serving as a police officer Edmund M Lutes enrolled in Glendale College Law and earned a Juris Doctorate in 1973. He was admitted to the California Bar on December 20, 1973
After a 20 year career with the Los Angeles Police Force in the Country, Edmund retired and was appointed a Deputy District Attorney for the county of Los Angeles starting July 25, 1983.
Edmund served a Prosecutor for the next 30 years, retiring from official service on March 05, 2013. He was proud to point out that he had served over 50 years in law enforcement.
Edmund’s “activities for excitement” included duck and dove hunting, skeet shooting, watching Pittsburgh sports teams, especially his beloved team the Steelers. He also enjoyed New York Times crossword puzzles.
Edmund Millen Lutes Jr., passed in the early hours of June 24, 2016 at the age of 83.
Edmund Millen Lutes, is survived by his wife Galina Lutes, daughters Terri ,Larisa, Michelle and Alexandra, sons Robert, Edmund and Erik, grandsons Tyler, Teo, and Ethan, and granddaughters Lauren and Helena.
