Elsa del Moral was born in the Coyoacán district of Mexico City on March 30th, 1936. She was the daughter of Agustin and Graciela de Garay Badia. She immigrated with her family to United States as a preteen, where she embarked on a new adventure. Her family moved to the Los Angeles area with her four siblings Olbia, Joe, Reyna and Manuel. She settled in the San Fernando Valley with her own family.
Elsa became a homemaker and was very active in business, real estate, and worked in Los Angeles schools throughout her life. Elsa loved her four children: Jaime, Edna (Laurie), Alfredo, and Elsa (Lily). Family was very important to Elsa, and she was active and involved in the lives of her children. She volunteered at their schools and her Catholic Church. She enjoyed celebrating holidays with her family and had a talent for cooking special traditional Mexican meals. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, often sewing clothes for them, attending their school plays and functions, and visiting and playing with them. Her children and grandchildren always looked forward to outings and play days with their grandma. She was a proud grandmother to Ryan, Alfred, Daniel, Sinead, Sean, Lisa, and Victoria, and was happy to learn about her first great grandchild due in June.
Elsa had a great passion for learning and experiencing new cultures. She traveled the world once her children had grown, and her travels took her to Colombia, Brazil, Spain, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, China, and Mexico, among others. She made many trips with loved ones, including children and grandchildren, making the most of her free time. She was a woman with many talents and enjoyed being creative through painting ceramics, sewing, knitting, baking, and cooking. She enjoyed the beauty of nature, including visiting the beach and tending to the fruit trees and flowers in her garden.
Elsa lived the final 5 years of her life in the Thousand Oaks area, where she enjoyed playing bingo, socializing, and keeping up with her family. Despite the loss of much of her mobility in her final years, and facing serious medical challenges, Elsa preserved her strong spirit, sharp intellect, and cheerful attitude. She maintained her religious faith which brought her much comfort and peace.
