Celebration of Life will be held when there is a vaccination for Covid-19 and we are allowed to gather – targeting for the first anniversary of Ercil’s death, actual date has yet to be determined. Ercil’s remains reside in a western themed urn, true to who he was, at his residence.
Ercil was born in Findley, Ohio, to Roy and Cleo Mae Eschbach on September 18, 1938, attended school in Findley, graduated from the University of Redlands and served in the Airforce during the Vietnam War. He married his wife, Mary D. Hall, on July 20, 1984 in Los Angeles, CA. Ercil was a California Highway Patrolman for 10 years. Afterwards, he worked in the aerospace industry for over 25 years for companies such as Aviall Corp, Menasco Aircraft Engines and several other smaller corporations. Ercil was a member of the High Twelve Masonic Lodge in Tiffin, Ohio, for over 50 years, a member of the Pasadena, CA, Scottish Rite along with other High Twelve chapters located in CA, and was Past President of CA State High Twelve Organization. Ercil had many passions, one of which was the time he spent as a devoted Trustee of the Wolcott Foundation that provides scholarships to graduate students seeking a Master’s degree. He was also a member of the Glendale Elks Lodge, an associate member of the Santa Clarita Elks Lodge and a member of the International Order of Hoo-Hoo.
Ercil is preceded in death by his parents, and his 6 brothers Franklin, Vernon, Samuel, Emmett, Charles and Glenn Opp and two Sisters Genevieve and Ruth.
Ercil was a man that lived the life of 10 men! From growing up on a farm to flying jets in the Air Force, Ercil lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed participating in so many activities: endurance horse racing - loved his Arabian horses, a champion archer, an avid and accomplished hunter and fisherman - a real all around outdoorsman, a dog breeder, a beekeeper, loved to cook and travel by plane, boat, train, motor coach or corvette. The party started once Ercil arrived! Ercil was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend who loved his family and friends. He knew how to take life by the horns and ride it to the fullest, and that he did.
Ercil is survived by his spouse Mary D. Hall, the love of his life, his daughters: Nichola (Brian) Myers of Lucas TX, Deborah (Robert) Creed of Hayward, CA, step-daughter: Nicole (James) Audette of Canyon Country, CA, 6 Grandchildren: Michaela, Robert, Shaina, Tiffany (Ivan), Elizabeth and Jimmy along with 5 Great Grandchildren. Ercil is also survived by his sister in Law, Nancy (Glenn) Opp and many nephews, nieces, grandnephews grandnieces and some great grandnephews and great grandnieces.
