Erik George Bowers PLS

Erik George Bowers passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was known for his warmth, generosity, humor, and boundless energy. He made friends wherever he went and will be remembered for his kindness, quick wit, and willingness to help others.

Born in March 1965 in Walnut Creek, California, Erik was the son of Lynn F. Bowers and Cheryl Olsen Bowers, later known as Ciel Bergman. He grew up in Berkeley, California; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Eugene, Oregon; and Santa Barbara, California, where he graduated from Santa Barbara High School.

Inspired by his mother's vision of incorporating recycled plastic waste into asphalt, Erik partnered with her life partner, Gary Fishback, in Albuquerque to bring the concept of Plasphalt to life. Together they successfully paved roadways throughout New Mexico and elsewhere. Although changing political priorities eventually brought the venture to an end, Erik remained proud of having helped pioneer an innovative and environmentally conscious technology.

Following his return to California, Erik built a distinguished career in land surveying. Having first learned the profession under the guidance of his father, he worked with engineering and surveying firms in Pleasanton, San Diego, and Los Angeles before earning his California Professional Land Surveyor License in 2008. In 2014, he served as President of the Los Angeles Chapter of the California Land Surveyors Association. Erik later acquired the specialized surveying firm Jack Little Company, which he and his wife, Maria, owned and successfully operated together until his passing.

Erik and Maria’s love blossumed in 2007. Since then they were inseparable. They married in 2019, building a life rooted in love, partnership, and shared purpose. Erik embraced Maria's large Chilean family as his own, welcoming them into his daily life and cherishing the close bonds they shared.

Family and friendships were at the center of Erik's life. He loved gathering with those closest to him and built lasting relationships through his generosity, humor, and enthusiasm. His impact on the lives of his family, friends, colleagues, and clients will be felt for years to come.

Erik is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Carolina Bowers; his sons, Nicholas Bowers, Jacob Bowers, and Joshua Bowers; his stepchildren, Heather Singer and Christopher Hogan and his grandson Preston Singer; his father, Lynn F. Bowers; his sister, Bridgit Koller; and his brother, Marhault Bowers. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew.
